A SAVIOR IS BORN

"For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.      (Luke 2:11)

Over two thousand years ago angels delivered God's messages to humans. Gabriel told Mary that she would give birth to the Son of God. An Angel told Joseph to stay with Mary throughout her remarkable pregnancy. Angels announced the birth of Christ to a frightened group of shepherds.

This kind of angelic "air Mail'.' did not happen often -- and so it was very important -- as the angels came with words, warnings and wonderful news from God to all mankind.

The messages were almost identical. They both said "FEAR NOT" to hearts and minds that were frightened. They both mention the name of David, which was the key word of all the Messianic hopes. Both speak of the child as a SAVIOR. Both speak of Him as the MESSIAH. The same “Anointed One” who as Gabriel had said "should reign over the house of Jacob forever." In the last title given by the angel, LORD, we recognize that He is in a unique sense, "the Son of the Most High."

This is the triple- crown the angel now bears to the cradle of the Holy Child. What He will be is still a prophecy: but as He is now brought into the world. God commands all the angels to worship Him. With united voice they salute the Child of Bethlehem as Savior, Messiah and Lord.

When Simeon heard tidings of the Savior's responded, For my eyes have seen Your salvation Which You have prepared before the face of all peoples, A light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, And the glory of Your people Israel." (Luke 2:30-32)

-Savior. Messiah. Lord. What gladder tidings could we take to our world than the triumphant announcement of Luke 2:11?
